Designed specifically with medium or large scale business customers, WD Red Pro drives are available for up to 24-bay NAS systems. Engineered to handle high-intensity workloads in 24×7 environments. Ideal for archiving and sharing, as well as RAID array extended systems. - Technology
Exclusive advanced firmware technology, NASware 3.0, enables seamless integration, robust data protection and optimal performance for NAS systems operating under heavy demand. Improves storage performance by increasing compatibility, integration, upgradeability, and reliability. - Compatibility
Optimized for NAS systems, unique algorithm balances performance and reliability in NAS and RAID environments. WD Red Plus drive is one of the most compatible drives available for NAS enclosures. Reflection of extensive NAS partner technology engagement and compatibility testing. - Protection
WD Red Pro drives are equipped with a multi-axis shock sensor that automatically detects subtle shock events and dynamic fly height technology which adjusts each read-write function to compensate and protect the data. Protects the drives in larger 24-bay NAS environments. - 3D Active Balance
Our enhanced dual-plane balance control technology improves the overall drive performance and reliability. Hard drives that are not properly balanced may cause excessive vibration and noise in a multi-drive system, reduce the hard drive life span, and degrade the performance. - Error Recovery Prevention
Built specifically for RAID and NAS environments, WD Red Pro drives come equipped with error recovery controls as part of NASware 3.0 technology to help reduce drive fallout in RAID applications - Extended Drive Testing
NAS environment that has up to 24 bays is very demanding on a hard drive with add?ed vibration and heat. This is why every WD Red Pro drive is shipped with extended thermal cycle burn-in testing to help ensure each drive is tested for extended reliable operation - Longer Warranty Coverage
WD Red Pro drives comes with a 5-year limited warranty for an even greater peace of mind.
Standard US ground delivery is $5.49 and arrives in 3–5 business days. Orders over $60 ship free. Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery.

Nice drive – wanted a big hard drive to try to get my pictures organized — this one works good

Went bad after 31 days – I recently purchased 2 of these for my NAS. Unfortunately, on the 31st day after the purchase, one of them went bad. I have shipped it off to WD but have not received it back yet. I am really frustrated that it failed so soon. The price was good, but the quality was not.

Just what i needed – Great product at a reasonable price. There were not Black Fiday prices for a 18 TB prices for a red pro.So i settled for this using a BB visa cc fir 5 % in rewards.

WD 18 TB Drive – Excellent, fast, and reliable storage drive. I purchased two of these drives would definitely purchase two more in the future.

Good with one problem – I like this drive its relatively fast but it is noisy. This doesent bother me.

18TB Red drive first month of use. – I have been running this drive for video editing and I am very satisfied with it’s performance. I have used almost all of it’s capacity so I may need to add another one.

3rd time’s a charm – I had to order this 18TB drive 3 times before I actually received the 18 TB size. Twice I received an 8TB drive inside the 18TB box. The WD seal was intact but on my second time opening of the WD box I noted that it appeared someone had opened the 18TB box from the bottom as the tab was sligtly bent and replaced the drive with an 8TB drive. Both 8TB drives were sealed in anti static bags.
WD does not seal both ends of the device box but they should.
It was frustrating wasting so much time returning the drives and ordering a new one.
Best Buy at Chesapeake Square in Virginia was very helpful and expedited my last and final attempt at ordering the 18TB drive.
For the record I recorded myself opening the second shipment from Best Buy so that they didnt blame me for the deception. I mean there’s no way it could happen twice right?

Excellent NAS Drive – Waited for price drop – I have been using WD drives for over 15 years with no issues. Therefore, I was not surprised to find that this 18 TB drive is an excellent drive.
However, the first drive I received was defective and could not be formatted, which caused Windows Explorer to freeze. The second drive I received was without fault and now have it running in my home NAS.

Good HD make noise – My second WD Red 18TB, everything is fine, but it makes a lot of noise, which is normal. I hope it lasts for many years in my DIY NAS.

Great quality! – I bought 2 of these for my computer. I bought 1 last year and that one also still works like a charm. The 2 drives I bought this year works great without any issues. These 2 drives were manufactured in 2024 of December. Takes a bit to spin up once powered on but works flawlessly with zero issues. Copying transfer speed is around 150-190mbps. Will be buying another 1 this weekend!

Lots of reliable storage at a decent price – Ive bought several of these WD Red Pro drives over the years and they handle what i need at speeds that get the job done

Great high capacity HDD. – I am using my 18TB WD Red Pro as a local backup repository for my PC. It replaces a smaller HDD that was doing a good job but was getting to be too small.
So far, it’s been doing a fine job, I’ve had no issues with it. I installed it in a previously vacant slot in a multi-drive external HDD enclosure without any problems.

Good, just wish it was cheaper – Good NAS grade drive, just wish storage at this tier was cheaper when you need to build out a NAS with 4+ drives – gets expensive fast
CoffeeMoves (verified owner) –
Works great, smidge noisy – Hard drive works great. It has been running 24 hours straight since I purchased. Subtle noise, but annoying but otherwise fine.
Bwabbit71 (verified owner) –
Good drive – A little slow to spin up. A little noisy at first. Other than that, I have no other issues. Speed is good. Works great with my NAS. Tons of space. I’ve always trusted WD drives.

Sent wrong product in the right packaging. – Delayed installing due to internet issues and the return expired. They sent 6 TB drives in 18 TB packaging. Never buying from best buy again.

Buyers beware. – The Pros:
Great when it ran in my UGREEN NASync DXP4800 Plus in a raid5 setup. A bit of spin up time maybe 10ish seconds in lag but that could be the hdds or the nas so I wont fault them.
The Cons:
Bought 4 around April 2025. 1 was doa(clicking) and replaced by best buy because they were within the exchange window. A 2nd failed Feb 2026 less than 1 year later.
They are being used in a nas so literally their intended purpose. Only around 6800hr of power on time, at a 50% failure rate for HDDs that you pay a premium for is a bit disappointing. Bad batch? Who knows!
Also these are not covered by best buy total protection so be buy at your own risk.

Plug it in and use it – Purchased it for a RAID 0 NAS. It has been fast and reliable.
